Parliament has enough votes to return to 2004 Constitution, Zhvania says

The head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on state building and local government, independent MP Davyd Zhvania, has said that more than 226 MPs in the Ukrainian parliament are ready to vote for a constitutional act on returning to the 2004 Constitution.

"There are more than 226 votes," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He also said that if Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak does not put the issue to the vote, then the process on the speaker's dismissal would be launched.

"I state that if this decision is not taken and if the speaker does not make decisions, perhaps, this process [of the dismissal of the Verkhovna Rada chairman] will be launched, and it would be inevitable," Zhvania said.
