Yanukovych assures U.S. senators that right of Ukrainians to peaceful actions will be guaranteed

Kyiv, December 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych at a meting U.S. Senators John McCain and Chris Murphy stressed that the government will do everything to guarantee the right to peaceful citizens' actions.

"Viktor Yanukovych gave assurances that the government will do everything possible to guarantee the right of citizens for peaceful demonstrations and also to conduct an honest and transparent investigation of the developments on November 30, 2013 in Kyiv's Independence Square," the Ukrainian presidential press service says.

The sides also discussed a wide range of Ukraine's foreign policy issues.

Once again the president stressed the invariability of Ukraine's course to European integration and loyalty to the country's national interests.

"The sides agreed to continue the dialogue," the press service says.

The meeting took place in Kyiv on Sunday night.

Earlier reports said that both senators spoke in Kyiv's Independence Square on Sunday and expressed U.S. support for the protesters.
