Nighttime events in Euromaidan undermine confidence in national roundtable, says ex-president Yuschenko

Former Ukrainian president Viktor Yuschenko has denounced the police actions against protesters in the center of Kyiv last night and said he has nothing against visiting the Euromaidan.

"The [attitude] is very negative. I followed the developments all night," he said in an interview with State TV on Wednesday.

"This is bad taste in the context of holding the roundtable to settle the domestic situation in Ukraine," he said.

"I did not foresee that the factor of force would work after these talks. I believe this undermines confidence in the roundtable," he said.

Asked whether he was willing to visit the Euromaidan Yuschenko said: "I am. But on the other hand, one should remember that very often the politicians that resort to such steps use them for self-promotion."

He stressed the importance of politicians respecting and delicately treating such an expression of public feelings.
