EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will meet with Ukrainian governmental officials, opposition figures and representatives of the civil society during her visit to Kyiv on December 10-11.

During the visit, Ashton will meet with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, opposition leaders, and representatives of the Euromaidan, as well as human rights organizations, Interfax-Ukraine learned at the EU Delegation in Kyiv.

At the same time, the Web site of the Polish Foreign Ministry reported that Minister Radoslaw Sikorski discussed the latest developments in Ukraine on the phone with Ashton.

"Lady Ashton and Foreign Minister Sikorski stressed the need to find a peaceful solution to the conflict and for the negotiations between the government and the opposition. They strongly oppose a military option for settling the situation. Lady Ashton announced her willingness to offer Kyiv authorities the EU's mediation in resolving the current conflict," reads the report posted on the Polish Foreign Ministry's Web site.

Sikorski and Ashton said that they were in constant contact in order to support a peaceful settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
