Ukraine president discusses domestic turmoil with security chiefs - media

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych held a conference at the Mezhyhirya residence (Vyshgorod district, Kyiv region) on Monday with Ukraine's top security officials, discussing plans to "bring the situation into the constitutional framework," zn.ua reported citing an informed source as saying.

The reported plans involved "mopping up" Kyiv's Independence Square, the main site of pro-European Union demonstrations, and wrench public buildings back from demonstrators occupying them, media reports said.

Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Kliuyev, the interior minister and the prosecutor general were present at the conference, the reports said.

Because of the conference, a weekly meeting chaired by Azarov was canceled.

A source in the Interior Ministry told zn.ua that "work on a set of resolute measures to bring the situation into the constitutional framework will most likely be put off until a roundtable is held."
