Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych met in Sochi on Friday to discuss the agenda of the bilateral interstate commission, which is to hold a session in Moscow on December 17, and they did not discuss Ukraine's possible accession to the Belarusian-Kazakh-Russian Customs Union, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Interfax.

"Special significance was attached to cooperation in the energy field, in discussing which the parties converged their positions," Peskov said.

"However, no final agreement was reached," he said.

In the context of the upcoming session of the Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission, the two presidents "exchanged opinions on the possible continuation and development of cooperation in the industry and hi-tech sectors, particularly in the aircraft- and shipbuilding, rocket engineering, and space exploration fields," he said.

"Putin and Yanukovych also considered the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the monetary-financial field," he said.

"Negotiations on all these matters will be continued at the expert level in the near future," he said.

"Ukraine's possible accession to the Customs Union was not discussed at the meeting in Sochi," Peskov said.
