The European Commission has taken into account the recent statement of the European Parliament's monitoring mission made by former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox and former President of Poland Alexander Kwasniewski that the remaining problems can still be solved in Ukraine.

The Vilnius summit will take place in two weeks, and the EU member states are currently evaluating Ukraine's actions and progress in meeting the requirements for the signing of the association agreement with the EU, a spokesman for European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, Peter Stano, said in comments to Interfax-Ukraine in Brussels on Friday.

Ukraine will be the main topic on the agenda of the November 18 meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs, he said.

He also said that the European Commission took note of the recent statement by Cox and Kwasniewski that the outstanding issues still could be resolved one way or another. "We continue to support their efforts in this matter," the spokesman said.

Stano said that Kyiv needed to take decisive steps in solving the situation with former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

He also expressed the hope that on November 19, the Verkhovna Rada would adopt the bill on the prosecutor's office and the bill on amendments to electoral legislation, which was earlier passed at first reading.
