If Yanukovych, Putin held secret talks, president should be impeached – Yatseniuk

The head of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has said he intended to request information about alleged secret talks between Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara.

"I will request from the foreign minister specific information – what was the Ukrainian president doing for the second time in Russia, and what did he talk about with Russian President Putin," Yatseniuk said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement.

He said that if Yanukovych and Putin held secret talks, this could be a reason for impeachment of the president.

"If a head of state holds secret talks with president of a second state, it is a direct reason for impeachment of such president," Yatseniuk said.

He said that such secret talks could be evidence of treason.

Yatseniuk said recent events show that Yanukovych is not going to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union.

"They want to disrupt [the summit in] Vilnius. They don't want to release [former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia] Tymoshenko… In fact they are implementing a scenario of disrupting [the summit in] Vilnius. This is a disaster for a country with a population of 40 million people," Yatseniuk said.

On November 9, the Ukrainian president made a working visit to Moscow to discuss trade and economic relations with the Russian president.
