Kyiv sees EP resolution as key for signing of Association Agreement with EU, says Foreign Ministry

Ukraine has welcomed the resolution on European Neighborhood Policy passed by the European Parliament on October 23.

"This document shows that the European Parliament still has a broad consensus of support of Ukraine's European integration aspirations and the further deepening of bilateral relations," the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine said in said in its comment on the adoption of the EP resolution.

The ministry noted that the European Parliament recognized Ukraine's progress in the preparations for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and recommended the signing and provisional application of the agreement if Kyiv continued achieving concrete results in the key areas of the EU's concern.

"Ukraine views the resolution as an important political decision of the European Parliament in the process of the preparation for the signing of the Association Agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, for the early start of its provisional application and the ratification process," the ministry said in its comment.

As reported, on October 23, the European Parliament passed a resolution in which it recommended that the Council of the European Union sign the Association Agreement with Ukraine if Kyiv meets all the necessary conditions. The resolution also gave the green light to the temporary application of individual statements of the document that account for nearly 80% of the clauses of the agreement.
