Chornobyl NPP checks position of skeleton and bending of bars of deaerator grating of Shelter facility

The state-run specialized enterprise Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) has selected state research and production enterprise Ukrinzhgeodeziya (Kyiv) as a contractor for the geodesic study of the position of the skeleton and the bending of the bars of the deaerator grating of the Shelter facility, reads a report published on the state procurement Web site.

Chornobyl NPP accepted the offer of Ukrinzhgeodeziya with the price of UAH 449,484 on October 10, 2013. The agreement is to be signed by November 8, 2013.

It is planned to check the position of the ferroconcrete skeleton of the deaerator grating in the 42-53 axes, and the B-V rows of the shelter bars at around 38.60 meters along their length.

The work is to be finished by December 16, 2013.

The deaerator grating is intended to remove gases from the heat carrier. The Shelter roof is leaning against the deaerator grating in the south.

In 1986, at the moment of the disaster at Chornobyl NPP, the pillars of the skeleton of the deaerator grating of reactor four deflected at the 38-meter point by 1.5-1.8 meters from the vertical. Later four pillars deflected more and leaned onto the roof of the control room.

As reported, last winter the walls and a part of light roof of the control room of reactor four were partially destroyed. The destroyed area came to around 600 square meters.

According to Chornobyl NPP, radiation at the industrial site of the plant and in the exclusion zone was normal, and no one was injured.
