The agreement on readmission between Ukraine and Russia will take effect in August 2013, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said.

"On July 8, 2013, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine sent a note to the Russian Embassy in Ukraine to inform it that the Ukrainian side has implemented all of the domestic procedures. Thus, the agreement will take effect in 30 days from the date of the official receipt of Ukraine's note by the Russian Foreign Ministry," the ministry's press service said.

The Ukrainian ministry added that the Russian side had also informed the Ukrainian side about the completion of all of the domestic procedures necessary for the introduction of this document back in November 2012. Thus, both sides have carried out all necessary tasks and procedures and the agreement will take effect soon.

"The Russian side has to inform the Ukrainian side through official diplomatic channels about the effective date of the agreement," the Foreign Ministry said.

As reported, the governments of Ukraine and Russia signed the agreement on readmission on October 22, 2012. The Ukrainian parliament ratified the document on June 5, 2013. In late June 2013, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych signed into law the bill on the ratification of the agreement.

The issue of readmission is important to both Kyiv and Moscow in the context of a visa liberalization dialogue with the European Union.
