Batkivschyna says Kyiv City Council could be stormed on Thursday

The chairman of the Kyiv city branch of the Batkivschyna Party, MP Yuriy Odarchenko, has said he does not rule out the use of force during a Kyiv City Council session, which is scheduled for July 11.

"Our task is to prevent illegitimate deputies from holding an illegitimate session. To do this, if necessary, we are prepared for certain tough actions such as an assault in order to enter the building. However, we hope that opposition deputies, their presence at a rally, as well as negotiations with the Kyiv City Council secretary and deputies, will help avoid misunderstanding and that everything will pass peacefully," the press service of the party's branch quoted Odarchenko as saying.

He said that deputies of opposition factions, activists and representatives of non-governmental organizations would participate in one of the largest rallies outside the building of Kyiv City State Administration on Thursday.

"Our task is to prevent the holding of a Kyiv City Council session and the adoption of intentionally unlawful decisions. The authorities must understand that the Ukrainian capital should be run by a legally elected city mayor and the deputies elected in local elections through personal voting," Odarchenko said.

The press service reported that the rally would take place on Thursday, July 11, at 0915 near the building of Kyiv City State Administration (36 Khreschatyk Street).
