Lukash replaces Lavrynovych as Ukraine's justice minister

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has dismissed Oleksandr Lavrynovych as the justice minister and appointed Olena Lukash to this post.

The president dismissed Lavrynovych in connection with his election as a member of the Supreme Council of Justice of Ukraine.

Prior to this the president dismissed Olena Lukash from the post of the minister of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Yanukovych signed relevant decrees on Thursday, July 4.

Lukash, born 1976, served as first deputy minister of the Cabinet of Ministers in 2006 – 2007. In 2007, she was elected MP of the Party of Regions. Since April of 2011, she has been an advisor to the president of Ukraine - representative of the president in the Constitutional Court.

Since December 2012, Lukash has served as the minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Lavrynovych, born 1956, was appointed a member of the Central Election Commission in 1990. In 1993, he served as the head of the CEC. Since 1994, he has several times been a member of the Verkhovna Rada. From 2002 until 2005, he served as the justice ministry. In March 2010 he was again appointed the justice minister in the government of Mykola Azarov.

On July 3, 2013, Lavrynovych was sworn in as a member of the Supreme Council of Justice.
