Leaders of the opposition parliamentary factions UDAR and Batkivschyna, Vitali Klitschko and Arseniy Yatseniuk, have discussed with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle the possibility of Ukraine's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's medical treatment in Germany.

"I addressed the minister with a request that the first step in addressing this issue should be giving Yulia Tymoshenko an opportunity to get medical treatment abroad," Yatseniuk told journalists in Kyiv on Friday after meeting with Westerwelle.

The Batkivschyna faction leader said that Tymoshenko's release is one of the main demands of Europe for the signing of an association agreement with Ukraine. He expressed the hope that the German foreign minister will raise this issue at a meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych scheduled for Friday.

"We have to sign the agreement in Vilnius, and Tymoshenko has to get her freedom. And the first step to this freedom should be giving her an opportunity to receive medical treatment in Germany," Yatseniuk added.
