First case of A (H1N1) virus officially confirmed in Ukraine, says Health Ministry
The first case of the A (H1N1) virus, also known as swine flu, has been officially confirmed in Ukraine, the country's Health Ministry reported on Friday.
The London-based reference laboratory of the World Health Organization has confirmed that tests on a Ukrainian who arrived from the United States on Saturday have proved that the man was infected with the A (H1N1) virus, the Ukrainian center of influenza and acute respiratory infections said.
As reported, a 24-year-old Ukrainian citizen who arrived from New York via Paris at Kyiv's Boryspil Airport on May 29 was taken to hospital on suspicion of being infected with the A (H1N1) virus.
The ministry's operations center responding to possible outbreaks of swine flu said that the patient was a Ukrainian who had lived and worked in the United States for the last two years.
