Nemyria: EU representatives, Ukrainian opposition call on Kyiv to fulfill all conditions to sign Association Agreement

The foreign ministers of Poland, Denmark, Lithuania and the Netherlands, at a meeting held with the Ukrainian opposition in Kyiv on Thursday, agreed that if the decision on signing an association agreement were made by the European side now, it would be negative, Batkivschyna MP Hryhoriy Nemyria has said.

"We discussed and expressed the joint position of all opposition parties about the prospects for signing the Association Agreement. Everybody was in favor of signing this agreement if the Ukrainian authorities demonstrate in the next few weeks not only a declaration, but also real steps to fulfill all three criteria, starting from the implementation of the criterion regarding the release of political prisoners and preventing new cases of politically motivated prosecutions. The second criterion is scheduling elections and holding them democratically in five single-mandate districts and adopting the electoral law. And the third criterion concerns the implementation of reforms, starting with the reform of the Prosecutor General's Office," Nemyria said after a meeting with European ministers in Kyiv on Thursday.

In addition, he said, during the discussion the sides agreed that Ukraine had not currently fulfilled all conditions for signing the Association Agreement.

"We agreed during the discussion that today, if the decision were made in the EU as to whether Ukraine demonstrated concrete results and sufficient progress, the answer would be negative," Nemyria said.

That is why, he said, the opposition assured European ministers that opposition factions would make every effort to ensure that the parliament votes for all laws that are necessary for Ukraine's further European integration.

He said that the sides had agreed that it currently depends on Ukraine's leadership whether all conditions for the future signing of the Association Agreement with the EU will be fulfilled.
