UDAR demands international sanctions against Ukrainian officials, dismissal of parliament speaker

The UDAR Party has said that is has consistently called for Ukraine's accession to the European Union and the implementation of all steps required for this, in particular, the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and the creation of a free trade area.

A respective statement made by UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko was posted on the party's official Web site on Tuesday.

"The European path of Ukraine has currently been closed by the current Ukrainian authorities. And there comes a turning point in which direction our country will really go. So those who, despite the assurances of European aspirations, are trying to drag Ukraine into other unions, have to understand the seriousness of the consequences of such actions. And it's time to raise the question of imposing international sanctions against concrete officials, with real names and posts," Klitschko said.

The UDAR faction in parliament also initiated the creation of a temporary commission to investigate the activity of Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Rybak in order to ensure his dismissal from the post.

According to the party's deputy chairman, Vitaliy Kovalchuk, Rybak "has repeatedly violated the constitution and laws of Ukraine, the parliament's rules of procedure, failed to guarantee personal voting and convene an extraordinary session at the request of more than 150 deputies, and was one of the organizers and participation of the illegal annulment of the parliamentary powers of Serhiy Vlasenko."
