Wholesale market price of electricity in Ukraine 2.9% up in 2017

Average wholesale market price of electricity on the wholesale market of Ukraine in 2017 grew by 2.9% or UAH 209.95 per MWh compared with 2016, from UAH 1,315.03 to UAH 1,353.27 per MWh.

According to state-owned enterprise Energomarket, the average wholesale market price grew due to a rise in the average selling price of electricity on the wholesale electricity market by power generating companies by 11.9%, the increase in payments by Ukrenergo from UAH 7.057 billion to UAH 8.022 billion and growth of the excise duty from UAH 4.192 billion to UAH 4.679 billion.

The share of subsidy certificates of the total wholesale market fell by 5.45 percentage points (p.p.), from 24.46% in 2016 to 19.01% in 2017. The sum of subsidy certificates fell by 19.5%, from UAH 45.466 billion to UAH 36.595 billion in 2017.

Average price of electricity by power generating companies last year grew by 11.9%, from 85.92 kopecks per kWh to 96.11 kopecks per kWh.

Average purchase price of electricity by electricity suppliers last year grew by 11%, from 98.25 kopecks per kWh to 109.01 kopecks per kWh. Average price of electricity for exports rose by 3.1% in 2017, from 127.45 kopecks per kWh to 131.38 kopecks per kWh.

In 2017, 138.4 billion kopecks per kWh of electricity was bought on the wholesale market, which is 0.6% more than in 2016 (137.6 billion kWh). Electricity for exports totaled 5.2 billion kWh (4 billion kWh in 2016).

Energomarket in 2017 sent UAH 7.229 billion of mandatory payments to the national budget, including UAH 4.722 billion of excise duty, UAH 2.305 billion of VAT and UAH 168 million of profit tax.
