Vodafone-Ukraine planning to focus on more promising frequencies for 4G communications

The mobile communications operator Vodafone-Ukraine believes that the 1800 MHz frequency spectrum is more interesting from the point of the introduction of next generation mobile communications, Corporate Governance Director at Vodafone-Ukraine Oleh Prozhyvalsky told reporters after the tender to sell 4G communications licenses for the 2600 MHz frequency spectrum.

"We would not introduce it [4G communications in the 2600 MHz frequency spectrum] on a massive scale. Taking into account the current situation, I do not see the acute necessity of spending large money for this spectrum," he said, adding that the 1800 MHz spectrum is more interesting for the company from the point of the introduction of next generation mobile communications.

Vodafone-Ukraine CEO Olha Ustynova said that technically the operator is ready to launch 4G commutations and it is ready to launch it in the frequency bands received at the tender after obtaining the license. At the end of March and early April the first launch of 4G is scheduled in large cities.

"Our strategic goal was to get the extreme, the most "pure" spectrum, which does not conflict with other users, including the military. We are pleased with the results of the tender, because we received a full 10 MHz spectrum, which is enough for us to provide for the capacity and unhindered building of networks in all regional centers, including Zhytomyr and Zaporizhia, where there are restrictions in other lots," she said, describing the company's plans.

The operator will be able to fully launch 4G in July after receiving the license for the 1800 MHz spectrum.
