Half of ACC member companies say NABU is most effective among anti-corruption institutions

Half of the member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine (ACC) consider the National Anti- Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to be the most effective authority among anti-corruption institutions in the country in 2017, according to a survey conducted by the ACC.

According to data posted on the NABU's website, 50% of those polled named the NABU the most effective body in fight against corruption (in 2017), 20% said the most effective authority was the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, 11% said it was the National Agency for Corruption Prevention.

According to NABU Director Artem Sytnyk, within two years since the beginning of first investigations bureau investigators often expose corruption in the public sector and the judicial branch of power.

"We documented the criminal activities of more than 30 judges - this is more than over six years before the bureau began work," Sytnyk said.

At the same time, according to the ACC poll, 71% of respondents believe that courts are the most corrupt state bodies. More than half of the respondents are convinced that the step Ukraine must take to make progress in fight against corruption is the creation of an Anti-Corruption Court.

The annual survey on perception of corruption is held for the fourth year in a row anonymously among representatives of the member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, a public non-profit organization that has been operating in the country since 1992. The results of the study are based on the assessment of the situation by the international business community. Some 184 respondents took part in the current survey, 80% of whom represent international business in Ukraine.
