More than two-thirds of industrial cooperation in the program of import substitution in the defense industry complex, implemented by Ukroboronprom state concern, as of early 2018 was made up of small and medium-sized enterprises, the press service of the state concern has reported.

"Ukroboronprom in the program of import substitution focused on cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises, whose share in total cooperation now reaches 65-70%," the press service said.

This choice is due to the high operational capacity of small and medium-sized businesses and the willingness to use modern production methods, which, combined with strict quality control at the enterprises of the concern and an open competitive struggle, allows supplying high-quality defense products to military customers.

At present a total of 447 enterprises of various forms of ownership from about 20 regions are involved in the state concern's program of import substitution. Kyiv, Rivne, Chernivtsi and Donetsk regions should also join the program soon, the report says.

Among the successfully provided directions of import substitution in the state concern are armored vehicles building, in particular, the BTR-4 program.
