Ukrzaliznytsia predicts positive results for 2017

PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) in 2017 improved operating efficiency and performance and expects a positive financial result for the past year, the company said.

"According to recent updates, for the first time since 2007, Ukrzaliznytsia in 2017 increased gross freight turnover by locomotives by 3.4% to 302 billion tonne-kilometers (tkm). In particular, transit traffic grew by 2% to 20.1 billion tkm. Passenger traffic increased by 3.6% to 28 billion passenger-kilometers," Ukrzaliznytsia said on its website.

Such results were achieved due to the growth of the working fleet of wagons and an increase in load indicators on the average per day, it said. An additional positive effect was thanks to a reduction in the idle time of a car per one cargo operation by 1.3%, or by 0.8 hours.

"All this combined with an improvement in operating efficiency gives grounds for PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia to expect a positive financial result based on the results of work in 2017," the company said.

According to its statistics, in 2017, Ukrzaliznytsia increased ticket sales by 10% from 2016, to 53.67 million tickets.

As previously reported, Ukrzaliznytsia earlier planned to transport 348.4 million tonnes of freight and 202.8 million passengers in 2017.

Ukrzaliznytsia is the main operator in Ukraine to transport freight and passengers by rail: it accounts for 82.4% of total freight traffic and for 33.4% of passenger traffic.
