Over 400 suits filed against PrivatBank nationalization, NBU says this is due to reluctance of ex-owners to repay debts

More than 400 lawsuits have been filed against the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), PrivatBank (Kyiv) and the Ministry of Finance, which are somehow connected with the process of nationalization of PrivatBank, the largest financial institution of the country, NBU Deputy Head Yekateryna Rozhkova has said at a press conference.

"Such a large number of claims testify, first of all, to the open reluctance of PrivatBank former owners to restructure and repay debts despite promises and letters that were sent to the National Bank, the prime minister and the Minister of Finance," she said.

Rozhkova noted these lawsuits are also filed to destabilize the work of the National Bank, PrivatBank and the Ministry of Finance, which are working on the return of these debts.

Asked about lawsuits regarding the work of Kroll detective agency and AlixPartners consulting company hired by the National Bank, the banker expressed her personal opinion that "this is just a manifestation of weakness and fear that the results of cooperation with Kroll, AlixPartners will be very unpleasant for former shareholders."

Commenting on filing such claims by the opponents to the London court, Rozhkova stated she counts on objective consideration of this dispute there
