World Bank follows IMF in expressing concern over attacks on Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions

The World Bank is concerned about recent attacks on the independent Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions, such as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), as this threatens their ability to fight corruption and recover stolen assets, the World Bank said.

"It's critical they have the legislative framework and resources to fulfill their mandate," the World Bank said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday under a photograph of a meeting between World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and NABU chief Artem Sytnyk.

It was reported earlier that the International Monetary Fund was concerned that the independence of Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies could be questioned.
