The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft agreement with the European Union on the allocation of EUR 50 million for a program to support Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The respective decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday. Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman read out this decision among those adopted by the government at the meeting without discussion.

The agreement foresees the funding by the European Commission of measures aimed at promoting peace, economic recovery and reconciliation in eastern Ukraine.

The funds will be used to improve local self-government, stimulate employment and economic growth by supporting the development of micro-, small- and medium-sized businesses, supporting community initiatives, as well as health, education and critical infrastructure reforms.

The government authorized Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivan Klympush-Tsintsadze to sign the agreement.
