National energy company Ukrenergo has drawn up a feasibility study for construction of infrastructure to transmit electricity from solar power plants with a capacity of up to 1.2 gigawatts in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

Ukrenergo presented the document at a government meeting on December 1, 2017.

"The project envisages construction of a new330/110 kV substation near Chornobyl NPP [nuclear power plant], 11 110/10 kV substations and near 54 km of 110 kV power lines," the company said.

Ukrenergo said that the feasibility study also foresees the installation of the electricity accumulation system. The approximate cost of the project is UAH 3 billion.

Ukrenergo operates trunk and interstate power grids, as well as performs the centralized dispatching of the united energy system in the country. The company is a state-owned enterprise, it is subordinate to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry.
