Cost of 1 ha of farmland if moratorium is annulled could be UAH 50,000-60,000 – agriculture ministry

The price of one hectare of farmland in Ukraine, if a moratorium on the sale of farmland is annulled, could be UAH 50,000-60,000, First Deputy Agricultural Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Maksym Martyniuk has said.

"The shadow land market would exist until the moratorium on the sale of land is in effect. If the market were launched, the price of one ha would vary from UAH 50,000 to UAH 60,000," he said on ICTV channel on Monday.

He said that the moratorium on the sale of farmland would be effective until the bill on farmland turnover is passed.

"The epic that we see today with the extension of the moratorium is nothing more than a bare politicking in order to please people and say that they were defended," Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said.

He said that he opposes the sale of farmland to agricultural holdings and foreigners.

"It is possible to allow land turnover among Ukrainian individual farmers in the volumes that are required for the creation of an agricultural enterprise," the prime minister said.

Martyniuk added that the land cadaster has 70% of all land parcels. The State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadaster fully ensures the process of land leasing.
