A direct flight on the route Kyiv-Toronto will be opened in the summer of next year by the Ukrainian airline company Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and Prime Minister of Ontario (Canada) Kathleen Wynn agreed during the meeting.

"I am happy to announce that Kyiv and Ontario will become even closer next summer as the UIA opens a regular flight Kyiv-Toronto, which will significantly enhance not only the strengthening of inter-human contacts, but will also open new opportunities for business development, especially in the context of the entry into force on August 1, 2017 of a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Canada," the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine quoted Groysman on Monday night.

The sides noted the strengthening of the dialogue between Ukraine and Canada and agreed on the need not to lose the pace and depth of mutual cooperation. During the meeting, the parties expressed their conviction that the opening of direct air communication between Kyiv and Toronto will contribute to strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

During the negotiations, the sides also touched upon the issue of the implementation of reforms in Ukraine. Groysman stressed that among the top-priority goals for the government are the reform of the public administration, decentralization, the reform of the state procurement system, the continuation of tax reform, judicial reform, pension, medical, education and state property management, as well as the privatization of state-owned companies.

Moreover, the PM expressed hope that Canadian investors, particularly from Ontario, would seize the opportunity and prospects of the Ukrainian market, which is becoming more and more attractive due to the implementation of reforms.

Groysman also thanked the Canadian side for the organization of the Invictus Games that became a significant military sport event of the year and allowed the team of Ukrainian military veterans to demonstrate outstanding sports achievements.

"We also highly appreciate the fact that a monument to the Holodomor victims - one of the most terrible tragedies in human history will be opened soon in Toronto," Groysman said.

The UIA fleet consists of 42 aircraft: four long-haul 767-300ER Boeings, 25 medium-range 737NG Boeings, eight 737 Boeings (including one cargo 737-300SF Boeing) and five Embraers-E190s. The basic airport of UIA is Kyiv International Boryspil Airport. One of the final beneficiaries of the company is businessman Ihor Kolomoisky.
