Good snow cover for winter crops over most of Ukraine
The freezing weather in Ukraine – untypical for the last three to five years - should not considerably worsen the condition of winter crops due to the sufficient snow cover, the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center has told Interfax-Ukraine.
"The fields are covered with snow practically over the whole territory of Ukraine, apart from in Odesa and Kherson regions, Crimea and part of Mykolaiv region. But there has not been a strong frost," saidTatiana Adamenko, the head of the agricultural meteorology department in the center.
Temperatures have reached minus 30 degrees Celsius in the east of Luhansk region, and minus 28 degrees Celsius in a number of other regions. However the snow cover of 8 to 25 centimeters should protect winter crops from such low temperatures.
According to Adamenko, the conditions for winter agricultural crops in autumn were satisfactory.
