Draft 2018 national budget provides for 3% GDP growth

Ukraine's draft national budget for 2018 provides for growth of GDP by 3%, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said at a government meeting on Friday.

He said that GDP growth could exceed the government's expectations.

"We could see the exceeded figure when we invest and when we conduct systemic reforms planned for September, October and November 2017," the prime minister said, adding that the figure could be doubled.

The document also provides for slow of inflation to 7% from 11% expected at the end of 2017 and the reduction of the deficit of the national budget to 2.4% of GDP from 2.7% of GDP in 2017, Groysman said.

Revenue of the consolidated budget is expected at the level of UAH 1.119 trillion, which is 14.9% more than expected in 2017.

"This is the first budget of the country that will exceed the figure of UAH 1 trillion... This is not due to higher taxes, but due to the growth of the national economy," Groysman said.

As reported, the government based the 2017 national budget on the forecast of GDP growth of 3% with inflation of 8.1%, while the National Bank of Ukraine expected an increase in GDP by 2.8% with inflation of 9.1%.
