Energy ministry recommends increasing price of coal made by state-owned coalmines by 10% from Sept 1

Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has recommended increasing the price of coal made by state-owned coalmines for electricity generating companies and combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) by 10%, from UAH 2,000 to UAH 2,200 per tonne (VAT and transportation expenses not included) to bring the coalmines to break even and provide generating companies with coal.

The decision was made at a meeting devoted to the setting the upper price of coal headed by Minister Ihor Nasalyk and held on August 30 in the ministry, one of the meeting participants told Interfax-Ukraine.

The source said that the minister pointed out the large increase in the steam coal prices in April-August 2017.

A representative of Ukrteploenergo notified meeting participants on more than 15% rise in the prices, referring to current offers of suppliers and indexes.

The source said that this increase in the indicative price was also explained by the necessity of boosting gas coal production to replace anthracite coal which shortage the country is facing now.

The source said that the price meets average calorific value of Ukrainian gas coal - 5,200 kilocalories per kilogram.
