Third vessel with coal from South Africa for DTEK arrives to Ukraine

A third vessel with 75,000 tonnes of anthracite from South Africa for Prydniprovska and Kryvy Rih thermal power plants (TPPs) of DTEK Energo has arrived to the Yuzhny port, the press service of DTEK has reported.

"The new batch of coal would expand stocks at the plants that are covering the summer shortage of electricity in the Ukrainian power grid and preparing for passing the autumn and winter period," the press service said.

DTEK recalled that since early August Kryvy Rih TPP operates with 600 MW loading at night and 735 MW loading during the day. Prydniprovska TPP operates with 150 MW loading at night and 200 MW loading during the day. Totally the plants burn around 10,000 tonnes of anthracite every 24 hours.

"Imported coal shipped earlier created a required stock at our TPPs to operate in summer period. Thanks to this, population and enterprises are stably receiving electricity. Next vessel from South Africa would arrive in the middle of September, which will be the start of the active phase of accumulating coal for winter," the press service said, citing DTEK Energo Commercial Director Vitaliy Butenko.

Under a contract DTEK has imported 225,000 tonnes of anthracite from South Africa to Ukraine. The first vessel with 75,000 tonnes of anthracite arrived to Ukraine on May 25, and the second on July 23. The company contracted a total of 675,000 tonnes of coal in South Africa.
