Ukrainian president signs buildings energy efficiency bill

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a bill on energy efficiency for buildings.

"This is a separate law on energy efficiency for buildings. The mechanism of concrete responsibility, personification and stimulation of measures to increase energy efficiency of buildings," the head of state said on Thursday in Kyiv during the events devoted to the signing of the bill.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on June 22 passed at second reading the bill on the energy efficiency for buildings.

The bill envisages the introduction of obligatory certification of energy efficiency for construction facilities with moderate or grave class of consequences and for buildings with a total heating area of over 250 square meters where public authorities or local self-government agencies and municipal organizations are located if they modernize these buildings.

The obligatory certification of energy efficiency for buildings is foreseen if economic entities take measures to increase energy efficiency with state support.

According to an explanatory note, the energy efficiency certification of buildings do not apply to industrial and nonresidential buildings with low energy consumption, buildings for religious events, cultural heritage items, temporary constructions and detached buildings with a total heating area of less than 50 square meters.
