Ukraine's road map for further European integration needs to be developed now

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says the development of a road map for further rapprochement with the European Union needs to start already now.

"It is important today to start developing a road map for making our dreams reality," Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with President of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker in Kyiv on Thursday, July 13.

In future, Ukraine plans to join the customs union with the EU, integrate into the Schengen zone, become part of the digital market and the energy union, Poroshenko said.

"This is strong impetus to the implementation of economic and social, sectoral and other reforms, the growth of our joint trade and investment, and it is important to assess our intentions not from today's moment, but from the prospects of future when Ukraine will be ready to become part of these ambitious projects," he said, adding that preparations for this are now a joint task of Ukraine and the EU.

Poroshenko said that the summit had also covered the possibility of drawing up a new long-term plan for the support of Ukraine, a kind of a Marshall Plan for Ukraine, which was proposed at the European People's Party summit, as well as the use by Ukraine of funds of the EU's newly created external investment plan.
