Some 419,000 tonnes of coal from Russia shipped to TPPs, CHPPs in Ukraine in May

A total of 996,800 tonnes of imported steam coal was shipped to thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) of Ukraine in January-May 2017, including 446,300 tonnes in May alone and 418,700 tonnes from Russia, a source in the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Over the period 100,500 tonnes of coal was shipped from South Africa, 777,500 tonnes from Russia and 118,900 tonnes from Poland.

Coal stocks at TPPs and CHPPs in Ukraine in May 2017 grew by 29.1% or 584,400 tonnes, being 2.592 million tonnes as of June 1, 2017.

As of June 1, 2017, gas coal stocks amounted to 2.041 million tonnes and anthracite stocks – 550,400 tonnes.

In May 2017, 1.928 million tonnes of coal was shipped to TPPs and CHPPs, and 1.343 million tonnes was consumed.

Fuel oil stocks at warehouses of power plants in May 2017 expanded by 6.1%, to 62,200 tonnes.

Coal stocks at warehouses of power plants as of June 1, 2017 were 6.1% more than as of June 1, 2016, and fuel oil stocks – 43.5% less.

Natural gas consumption in May 2017 was 142.2 million cubic meters (mcm) compared to 173.2 mcm in April 2017 and 98.2 mcm in May 2016.
