Ukraine needs to register bill on lifting moratorium on round timber exports to get EUR 600 mln

Ukraine needs only to register a draft law on removing the moratorium on untreated timber exports to attract EUR600 million of macro-financial assistance from the EU, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli has said.

"No, only register the draft law in the parliament," he said, asked by Interfax-Ukraine on the sidelines of the annual conference of Dragon Capital investment company in Kyiv.

During his speech at the conference Mingarelli noted the moratorium on timber exports was introduced in violation of Ukraine's obligations within the WTO and the Association Agreement with the EU.

In addition, the EU representative added another condition for providing the country with financing is the settlement of the issue of providing social payments to internally displaced persons in Ukraine.

Mingarelli said much has been done in this direction, but it is important that all internally displaced persons receive their payments, even those that have not yet been registered.

According to him, as soon as these issues are resolved, Ukraine within a few weeks will receive the promised funding.
