The United States will provide $37.5 million to Ukraine in 2017 as part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

According to a report of the Public Health Center of Ukraine's Health Ministry, some $5.6 million is provided to procure medicines and medical products. Some 15,000 antiretroviral therapy courses to expand treatment, 4,000 annual courses for pre-contact prevention and 100,000 quick tests will be procured.

Some $6 million will be sent to support the healthcare system. There are no details how the rest of the funds will be distributed.

In 2017 the programs will spread to Donetsk region. The region will be the 12th PEPFAR region.

"Successful negotiations in Washington were the result of implementing the country's liabilities to increase public financing. The 2017 national budget envisages UAH 684 million to procure antiretroviral medications. This is 171% more than in 2016. The state can provide around 40,000 patients who earlier were treated under the PEPFAR program with drugs," the center said.
