Energy minister sees no grounds for revision of forecast balance of electricity for 2017

Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk does not see grounds for revising the forecast balance of electricity for 2017, he said at a meeting with the public on Thursday.

"There are no grounds for revising the annual balance… If now the share of NPPs [nuclear power plants] increased to 59%, there would not be a chance to do it in June. We would have 50% of nuclear generation. For the year we will see the same 53% [the share in the forecast balance of electricity]," he said.

Nasalyk said that the minimum equipment of thermal power plants (TPPs) was decreased to 300 MW from 700 MW as the state of emergency was introduced. The volume was replaced by nuclear generation only thanks to the repair schedule with extra generating capacity for this period.

"In June we would not have this surplus. We would have to use TPPs [and increase their share]," he said.
