World Bank to study possibly of supporting foreign inventory project in Ukraine

The forest record keeping project in Ukraine drawn up by the State Forest Agency could be supported by the World Bank.

"We have arranged that experts of the World Bank would consider our technical specifications for the fully functional forest record keeping in Ukraine. They would join the project that we start with Austrians. In particular, they would provide proposals on international record keeping standards and technical assistance," acting head of the agency Khrystyna Yushkevych wrote on her Facebook page.

She said that with realistic information about forest record keeping the agency would be able to improve the public forest cadastre, permanently monitor forest operations using Earth remote sensing.

She said that the World Bank would also provide expert assistance to draw up and introduce the national forest program.

"The main issue is the comprehensive forest reform. Representatives of the World Bank support our vision of the issue. We have arranged that they would provide their assistance both at the stage of designing and introduction of the reform," she said.

According to a posting on the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry, a working group to discuss approaches to manage forests has been created.
