EU annuls antidumping duty on steel ropes, including from Ukraine

The European Commission has decided not extend the antidumping duty on imports of steel ropes and cables originated from Ukraine and Moldova that had been in effect since 1999.

The notification about the annulment of the duty from February 10, 2017 has been published in the EU Official Journal.

Earlier Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Trade Representative of Ukraine Natalia Mykolska wrote on her Facebook page that the EU would revoke the antidumping duty imposed on steel ropes from Ukraine in coming days.

"We expect that in coming days the EU would revoke the antidumping duty imposed on imports of steel ropes from Ukraine after almost 19 years when they were in effect. These were one of the two last antidumping measures imposed on Ukraine #uaexports in the #EU. These measures actually resulted in the full closure of the European market for Ukrainian producer Stalkanat-Silur," she said.

She said that the Ukrainian producer and the Economic Development and Trade Ministry actively worked with the European Commission in 2014 and this resulted in the large reduction of antidumping duties in 2015 – to 10.5%.

As reported, the EU in January 2016 cut the antidumping duty on steel ropes made by Stalkanat-Silur from 51.8% to 10.5%. The Ukrainian producer initiated the revision of the duty in November 2014.
