Ukrzaliznytsia sees UAH 303 mln of net profit in 2016 under Ukrainian accounting standards

Public joint-stock company Ukrzaliznytsia in 2016 saw UAH 303 million of net profit under Ukrainian accounting standards.

The press service of the company reported, referring to Ukrzaliznytsia Chairman Wojciech Balczun, in 2016 the company saw UAH 78.9 million of revenue. The company spent UAH 78.6 billion. Ending stocks on the company's accounts at the end of 2016 was UAH 5.5 billion.

In 2016 Ukrainian railways carried 344.3 million tonnes of cargo and 439 million passengers. Transportation revenue totaled UAH 62 billion. Expenses on transportation amounted to UAH 58.4 billion. They were reduced compared to the approved target by UAH 1.7 billion or 2.8%.

"Last year we managed to cut spending on fuel by UAH 1.3 billion thanks to the reduction of the price of diesel fuel. With the target of UAH 20,912 per tonne the price was UAH 19.902 per tonne," the company said.

Rolling stock was upgraded for UAH 2.8 billion last year. The fixed assets were modernized for UAH 2 billion, including rolling stock for UAH 900 million.

Overhaul for UAH 2.8 billion was carried out, including reconstruction of tracks for UAH 1.1 billion, construction of the Beskydsky tunnel for UAH 700 million and modernization of the Kamysh-Zoria-Volnovakha section with expanding of its capacity.

Some 7,278 locomotives, over 30,000 freight wagons, over 2,000 passenger wagons were repaired. The two-deck Skoda train was repaired and launched. The company bought 1,020 gondola cars.

Ukrzaliznytsia's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was UAH 20.5 billion in 2016 and EBITDA margin – 30%.
