Ukraine's infrastructure ministry confirms holding talks on flights to Ukraine with Ryanair

Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry has confirmed holding talks on flights to Ukraine by Kyiv and Lviv airports with one of the largest low cost airlines Ryanair.

"The talks are confidential under a request of Ryanair," First Deputy Infrastructure Minister Yevhen Kravtsov said in an interview with Focus publication asked about the prospect of flying to Kyiv and Lviv by the low cost airline starting autumn 2017.

He said that in the first 10 months of 2016 transportation grew by 15%, and by 30% in Kyiv and Lviv.

"Demand has appeared. It is the largest in the low cost segment. Now low cost airlines can load planes by 90% and more with Ukrainian passengers as their business model requires. Ryanair is actively developing the route chain, and they are interested in flying to Ukraine," Kravtsov said.

Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer David O'Brien said in May 2016 that Ryanair is holding talks with Lviv on the flights to the city.

"I don’t think that we will discuss flights to Odesa. Ukraine today can be considered only as am additional route to our key markets. They are Italy, Spain, Britain, Ireland and Germany where there are many popular routes closer than Ukraine. Broadly speaking, our business model is that each additional flight increases our production cost per passenger and we expects that this investment is returned. There is demand in Ukraine on flights to many countries. These are mostly flights to the east and north where Ryanair does not have the right to fly," he then said in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
