EU bans poultry imports from Ukraine due to avian influenza

The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Rights Protection has received an official notification of a ban on exports of poultry from Ukraine to EU in connection with the registration of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5) in Kherson region.

The agency told Interfax-Ukraine in order to restore exports from other regions of Ukraine free of avian influenza and introduce regionalization, the country has sent detailed information on the measures taken to liquidate the disease to the EU.

The service added that due to avian influenza detected in Kherson region, a ban on the supply of eggs from this region to Hong Kong was introduced.

The agency said in accordance with the international obligations Ukraine has informed international trading partners on the measures taken to prevent a further spread of the disease and appeals to the major trading partners on preventing the suspension of poultry exports.
