NABU complains of inaction in UIA case to PGO

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has complained about inaction by Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) Nazar Kholodnytsky in the so-called UIA case to Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, but the agency did not ask to hold him responsible, NABU has told Interfax-Ukraine.

NABU said that on November 10 NABU detectives using the procedure described in Article 277 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine sent a notification to the SAP head for approval that concerns suspecting the head and chief accountant of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) and ex-head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine of embezzling funds from the state specialized fund for financing aviation activities and Ukraine's participation in international aviation organizations. The persons are criminally punishable under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

NABU received a letter signed by Kholodnytsky on November 24. SAP refused to approve the documents. After analyzing the letter, NABU detectives concluded the judgments made not in line with the information confirmed by the materials of the investigation.

On November 25, NABU sent a complaint of inaction of the SAP head to meet the requirements of Articles 311-312 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The press service said that instead of studying the complaint and taking measures as required by law the PGO head made public statements, which could worsen ties between NABU and SAP.
