FDI in Ukraine grows by $2.62 bln in Jan-Sept
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ukraine in the form of shareholder capital totaled $45.152 billion as of October 1, 2016, and this is $2.62 billion or 6.2% up compared to the start of the year, the State Statistics Service reported on Tuesday.
Nonresidents increased investment in Ukraine by $3.8 billion in January-September 2016 and withdrew $460 million, with the negative exchange rate difference being $660 million.
The situation with investment in Q1-Q3 2016 is better compared to Q1-Q3 2015 when investment was assessed at $2.55 billion and some $520 million were withdrawn, with the negative exchange rate difference being $3.65 billion.
FDI attraction in Q3 2016 decreased compared to H1 2016. Nonresidents invested in Ukraine $1.04 billion in January-March 2016 and withdrew $90 million, with the negative exchange rate difference being $630 million. Nonresidents invested in Ukraine $2.86 billion in January-June 2016 and withdrew $330 million, with the negative exchange rate difference being $220 million.
FDI came from 125 countries. The share of top ten countries investing in Ukraine was 83.1% of total FDI: Cyprus - $11.04 billion, the Netherlands - $5.91 billion, Germany - $5.45 billion, Russia - $4.62 billion, Austria - $2.61 billion, UK - $1.89 billion, British Virgin Islands - $1.79 billion, France - $1.53 billion, Switzerland - $1.48 billion and Italy - $1.16 billion.
Since early 2016, the largest investment came from Russia: their share grew to 10.2% from 7.7% and from Austria – to 5.8% from 5.7%.
The share of Cypriot investment to Ukraine continued falling – from 26.2% as of early 2016 to 14.4% as of early October. The share of investment from the Netherlands decreased from 13.5% to 13.1%, Germany – from 12.7% to 12.1%, while the share of UK and British Virgin Islands – remained unchanged at 4.2% and 4% respectively.
FDI from Ukraine to other countries as of October 1, 2016 totaled $6.237 billion. FDI from Ukraine came to 47 countries, and the major part of it was sent to Cyprus (93.4%).
The statistics authority said that the volume of FDI in Ukraine in January-September 2016 was $1,058 per capita compared to $1,049.60 at the beginning of July.
