NBU revises upwards deficit of current account in 2016 from $1.8 bln to $2.5 bln

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has revised upwards its forecast for the deficit of the current account in 2016 to $2.5 billion from $1.8 billion predicted earlier, the central bank has said in a press release.

In addition, the NBU revised downwards the forecast for the deficit of the current account for 2017 – to $2.9 billion from $2.1 billion and for 2018 - to $2.8 billion from $2.5 billion.

The central bank said that the key factor for revising the forecast was growth of investment activity in the country.

The surplus of balance of payment in 2016 and in 2017-2018 will be recorded thanks to net capital inflow to the financial account, in particular, direct investment.

The surplus for balance of payment for 2016 revised upwards from $1.3 billion to $1.7 billion, downwards for 2017 – from $1.7 billion to $1.2 billion and upwards for 2018 – from $2.1 billion to $3.8 billion.
