Loss of reputation enough ground for dismissing NBU head Gontareva – MP Taruta

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has sufficient grounds to dismiss Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriya Gontareva, as she has lost her business reputation and the trust of citizens, MP Serhiy Taruta believes.

"The level of confidence in the NBU top managers is the lowest in the whole history of Ukraine," he said on Shuster Live show on Friday.

The lawmaker said that the ground for dismissal is the loss of impeccable business reputation, according to Article 18 of the law on the National Bank of Ukraine.

Taruta said that around 1 million of Ukrainians and 30,000 companies have lost their deposits at banks.

The lawmaker said that the key element for recovery of the banking system is trust. Today there is no trust. Only one of every five Ukrainians uses deposit services at Ukrainian banks from time to time.

Taruta said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is dissatisfied with the results of monitoring of Ukrainian banks.

"Do not deceive people … The IMF has toughly criticized the system of preliminary monitoring of all banks. The inside information from IMF representatives – I met them – is that they are dissatisfied with the monitoring situation," he said.
