Head of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balczun estimates the shortage of freight cars at 10,000 units, according to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent.

Balczun said this during a meeting at the American Chamber of Commerce in Kyiv.

He noted the need for the development of a freight rolling stock segment, its efficiency.

"We need to abolish several depots, simplify a large amount of technical documentation," he said.

According to the company head, this work also requires the development of appropriate policy on the part of the Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine.

"If we create a new business model - we will be able to enter the international level," he added.

As reported, in March 2016 Ukrzaliznytsia board member Yevhen Kravtsov (now the First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure) noted about 50% of freight cars from the Ukrzaliznytsia rolling stock are to be written off the inventory in the next three or four years.
