Ukraine's infrastructure ministry okays Ukrposhta strategy pending arrival of new management

Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry has approved a strategic plan for the development of state-run Ukrainian postal service company Ukrposhta until 2020, the company's press service reported.

The plant was developed by a group of Ukrposhta experts under the guidance of acting head Ihor Tkachuk pending the arrival of new chairman of the company's board Ihor Smiliansky.

"The approved strategy outlines priority directions of the company's reform, ways of achieving the set goals, forms requirements for the development of corporate infrastructure, the use of IT systems, improvement of production processes, and also contains proposals for regulatory policy in the postal communications sector," Ukrposhta's press service quotes Tkachuk as saying.

The implementation of the strategic development plan will let the company consistently and in the balanced way move to the goal, i.e. ensure the company's sustainable development and take the lead in the postal and financial services market.

The strategy envisages improvement of the company's management system, which includes the completion of corporatization of the enterprise, the introduction of a system of macro regions, as well as the creation of a vertically integrated model with singling out individual business units in certain areas and the subsequent transition to a divisional structure of management.

The development of IT technologies foresees automation of all jobs, the creation of a single centralized integrated platform to manage the enterprise and production processes, the introduction of the e-commerce system, Marketplace, and the development of its own mobile applications, mWallet.

The strategy also provides for the reform of financial services, optimization of logistics and network processes, the reform of human resource, modernization of the system of sales channels.

"The development of infrastructure involves the construction and launch of automated mail processing centers, creation of own logistic warehouses, which will include the following basic operations as the acceptance of freight, storage, batching, packing, delivery, servicing. It suggests modernization and optimization of vehicles, further implementation of energy efficiency programs and the like," Ukrposhta said.

As was reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on April 20, 2016, appointed Ihor Smiliansky, a manager of the U.S. office of KPMG, chairman of the board of Ukrainian postal services state enterprise Ukrposhta.

On June 8, the Cabinet agreed a contract with Smiliansky, and the Infrastructure Ministry announced on June 9 he would be able to start work early in July.

Ukrposhta is subject to the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry. It is the national postal operator in Ukraine. As of today, it offers over 50 types of services via almost 12,000 outlets across Ukraine. Its personnel are 76,000 people, including 33,000 postmen and 12,000 postal operators.
