Tax evasion charges against Kyivstar are trumped up – Kyivstar head

President of Kyivstar mobile operator Petro Chernyshov has said accusations by Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office of large tax evasion by Kyivstar are groundless.

"Yesterday [on May 19] a report that a criminal case on tax evasion was opened against officials of our company appeared on the website of Prosecutor General's Office. The sum of UAH 2.3 billion was named. This is an absolute record for Ukraine. Who are these officials? We do not know," he wrote on his Facebook page.

"Our opinion (and not only our, but our legal consultants Vasil Kisil & Partners and tax consultants from EY Ukraine): accusations are groundless and dreamed up. If to say briefly, they want to force us to pay taxes for the second time from income on which taxes were paid in 2013 and Q1 2014," Chernyshov said.

He said that Kyivstar is challenging the accruing of these taxes in administrative court.

"We are fighting and will fight using all affordable legal ways," he said.
